What is Reiki?
Reiki (RAY-kee) is a energy healing modality. It means "universal life force energy" and is used for healing yet it exists in all that lives. Reiki helps bring balance back to living things. Reiki healing is an great aid to other healing modalities and can be learned and practiced by anyone willing. One does have to do their own homework whether is specific medical treatment or changing a habit, otherwise it will seem to not work outside of the session. Reiki isn't a religion nor is it a medical substitute. It will not cure illnesses or dis-eases; however, it does assist in creating an environment to allow healing to happen. How does it work?
Basically, we all have the ability to heal naturally. Sometimes, one can build-up blockages which can lead to imbalances. Reiki gives clients what they need as it is needed in the moment. Reiki practitioners help those passages open up to allow reiki to pass through uninhibited just as it naturally once did. The practitioner doesn't move energy, specify where it should go, or use their own or your energy to do so. It may sound alien, but it is a direct connection with the energy source from which we're created. Think of the Reiki practitioner as an energy straw. The practitioner is attuned to the higher level vibrations of this energy in order to connect the client to reiki. It took a lot of time get out of balance, it does take time to come back into it, therefore, Reiki isn't your "one-hit-wonder" or "cure-all pill". Brief history of Reiki
Reiki began originally in Japan. Lost through the years, it has gained attention all over the world. Usui Sensei helped bring it back into practice and awareness. The method was originally passed from teacher to student orally. Overtime, it has made it into written form, but is still held in highest respect from those who train future practitioners. Gendai Reiki Ho follows the preserves the Japanese tradition with modern tweaks on techniques to make it more accessible to people of today's time. In this tradition of Usui Reiki, there are 4 degree levels to undergo before becoming a Master Teacher: Sho-den, Oku-den, Shinpi-den, and Gokukai-den. In each level, students are attuned to a new vibrational frequency of the reiki energy. After the first attunement, students are able to practice reiki. This tool is wonderful for learning more about yourself as you bring your whole system into better balance. What's a session like?
Sessions can last from 15 to 60 minutes and will be hands-off. All sessions are done fully clothed. A typical session generally leaves a client feeling non-threatened, energized, and deeply relaxed. During a session, clients may feel nothing at all or sensations of warmth, coolness, or even tingles in the body. Practitioners go through a series of hand positions either with hands lightly hovering over the body. Personal areas, such as the breasts and genital regions, will not be invaded. Clients will lie on the back, or remain upright in a chair, with shoes off. A discussion during the first meeting will help the practitioner know the intention for the session as well as any concerns. |
